André Bächtiger is currently senior assistant at the Institute of Political Science (University of Bern). Before, he was visiting scholar at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) and Swiss Chair Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence.
His research focuses on political institutions and deliberation as well as democratization in the less developed world. He is co-author of “Deliberative Politics in Action” (Cambridge University Press, 2004), co-editor of the two special issues of Acta Politica (40/1 & 40/2) on “Empirical Approaches to Deliberative Democracy” (2005), and co-editor of the special issue of the Swiss Journal of Political Science (13/4) on “Deliberative Democracy” (2007). He has also published a paper on democratication in Africa and Asia (European Journal of Political Research 2005).
